There is a God. He made all things, and all things belong to Him. He is holy and righteous and has holy and righteous standards, or laws, by which He commands us to live. God’s law can be summed up in two commands: love God with all your heart, soul, and mind; and love your neighbor as yourself. This creates a problem for humanity; all of us want to rule ourselves in a way that is right in our own eyes instead of obeying God’s laws. The Bible calls this attitude in our hearts sin. Sin manifests itself in the ways we treat God and each other. God has promised that He will judge all of mankind for their sins; the consequence for our sin will be to suffer eternal death in hell.
BUT, because of God’s love for us, He sent His son Jesus to the earth to take on Himself the punishment sin deserves. Even though Jesus lived a perfect life, He was put to death, not because of anything He had done, but because of our sin. God punished Jesus for every sin we would ever commit in this life: past, present, and future. He poured out upon His son Jesus the wrath our sin deserves. Jesus became our substitute.
Jesus didn’t remain dead. Three days later He rose to life and was seen by many people. Jesus’ resurrection from the dead is proof that God was satisfied with Jesus as our perfect substitute. He atoned for, or covered, our sins! AND, if you repent of (or turn away from) your sin and put your faith in Jesus’ perfect life, death, and resurrection, you will be saved from God’s judgment and receive eternal life. God will also adopt you as one of His children! There’s nothing we can do on our own to be saved from God’s wrath. You simply need to turn from your sin and trust in Jesus and what He’s done for you. Have you done that? If not, don’t delay any longer. Today is the day for salvation.
